Market Overview

Gold (XAU/USD) is trading near 4043 at the end of the October 27 session on the M15 chart. Early in the session, price retested the 3989 low, which is the same level as Monday’s spike low, and buyers defended it again. From there gold rallied about 75 points and broke through the 4028 to 4034 ceiling that held all of Monday. The rally stopped with a wick near 4071, and price has since slipped about 28 points. The RSI(14) reads 34.90, which is close to the oversold line.

Technical Analysis

At the start of the chart, price was still moving inside Monday’s band, with a dip to about 4004 and a high near 4025. After that, a steady run of red candles pulled gold down to a low near 3989. That is the exact area of Monday’s spike low, so the 3986 to 3992 zone has now held twice.

From that low, a strong run of green candles pushed price up about 75 points and cleared the 4034 ceiling without much pause. This is the breakout the last page described as the bullish case. Price then moved sideways between about 4054 and 4064 for several hours, which formed a new shelf above the old ceiling.

That shelf gave way late in the session. A final spike to about 4071 was sold quickly, and a steady run of red candles brought gold down to 4043. The RSI shows the swing clearly: it reached about 88 at the top of the rally, a very overbought reading, and has now dropped to 34.90. The drop is heading toward the 4034 area, so price may soon retest the old ceiling from above. The bigger picture is still shaped by last week’s drop from the 4146.54 swing high, so a full recovery is not confirmed yet.

Support & Resistance

The table below lists the main price levels in play, based on the highs, lows, and reaction zones on the chart.

Level Type Price
Major Resistance (Swing High) 4140 – 4147
Resistance 1 (Broken Swing Low) 4098 – 4105
Key Resistance (Session High) 4064 – 4072
Immediate Resistance (Shelf Low) 4052 – 4058
Current Price 4042.90
Immediate Support (Old Ceiling) 4028 – 4034
Support (Monday Dip Lows) 4004 – 4008
Major Support (Double Bottom) 3986 – 3992
Extended Support (Friday Low) 3975 – 3985

The 4028 to 4034 zone is the first area to watch. It capped every rally on Monday, and a broken ceiling often turns into a floor when price comes back to test it. Below it, 4004 to 4008 held the dips on Monday and early Tuesday, and 3986 to 3992 has now held twice, which makes it the strongest floor on the chart. On the upside, 4052 to 4058 is the bottom of the shelf that price just fell out of, so it may act as resistance on any bounce, and 4064 to 4072 is the session high.

Momentum

RSI 35

The bar above shows the M15 RSI(14) on a scale from 0 to 100. At 34.90, it sits below the 50 midline and close to the 30 level, which means sellers have had control over the last few hours. During the rally the RSI climbed to about 88, a very overbought reading, so a pullback was not a surprise. A reading near 30 often comes with a pause or a bounce, but it can also stay low if the sell-off keeps going. An RSI that moves back above 50 while price holds above 4028 would be a good sign for buyers. A close below 4028 with the RSI staying under 35 would show the breakout is failing.

Bullish Scenario

In the bullish case, price pulls back into the 4028 to 4034 zone, holds it as new support, and turns up. A move back above 4052 to 4058 would then aim for the session high near 4064 to 4072, and a close above 4072 would open the way toward 4098 to 4105. Holding the old ceiling as a floor is what keeps the breakout alive.

▼

Bearish Scenario

In the bearish case, price closes below 4028 and falls back inside Monday’s range, which would make the breakout look like a false move. That would point to 4004 to 4008 next, and then the double bottom at 3986 to 3992. A close below 3986 would put the 3975 to 3985 area in view.

5

Forecast

Price is pulling back toward the old ceiling after a strong breakout, so the next move depends on whether the 4028 to 4034 zone holds. The breakout and the double bottom at 3989 give a small edge to a bounce, but the weak RSI and the steady selling keep a deeper dip possible. These percentages are illustrative, technically derived estimates intended to communicate relative likelihood based on current chart structure, not a scientific or statistically validated forecast.

Actual gold price movement is influenced by a wide range of fundamental factors including central bank policy expectations, Treasury yield movements, dollar index behavior, geopolitical developments, and broader risk sentiment across global markets, none of which can be reliably read from a price chart alone.

Trading Strategy

Traders looking to buy can wait for price to reach the 4028 to 4034 zone and show a sign of holding, such as a bounce with a rising RSI, instead of buying into the drop. A stop below 4004 would sit under the next support, and 4052 to 4058 is the first target area. Traders looking to sell can wait for a bounce into 4052 to 4058 that fails, or a close below 4028 that shows the breakout has failed, with 4006 as the first target area.

At 4043, price is in the middle of a pullback with the RSI near 35, so selling now means chasing a drop that is already close to support, and buying now means catching a falling move. Waiting for the reaction at 4028 to 4034 gives a clearer read.

7

Risk Management

Gold moved about 75 points up and then about 28 points down within one session, so wide swings are normal right now. Stops placed just beyond 4028 or 4004 can be hit by quick wicks, so it is worth leaving extra room and using a smaller position size to make up for it. After a strong rally, pullbacks can be fast, so avoid adding to a position in the middle of a move and wait for price to react at a clear level.

8

Conclusion

Gold is trading near 4043 after a strong breakout above the 4034 ceiling, which followed a second successful defense of the 3989 low. The rally stopped near 4071 and price has been pulling back, with the RSI at 34.90 close to oversold. The key area now is 4028 to 4034: holding it would keep the breakout alive and aim for 4058 and possibly 4070, while a close below it would send price back into Monday’s range toward 4006 and possibly 3989.
